Clogher Pioneers Schools
Young Pioneers School Project.
September 2002 saw the launch of a new initiative in South Monaghan. Fr Jimmy McPhillips with the assistance of some like minded friends realised the potential to develop the Young Pioneers in the local schools.
As a result of the alarming rate of underage drinking, it was decided to develop and promote a initiative which would address this increasingly difficult social problem.
The main objective of this initiative was to develop a programme of activities and events for young people from the age of 12 and up where they could meet and enjoy themselves in an alcohol free environment.
The Young Pioneer Clubs became an instant success with a total of one hundred and thirty students joining in the first year alone. Since then we have grown significantly. Our success is largely due to the enthusiasm of all those young people who recognise the value staying off alcohol.
The Young Pioneer Council
In January 2005, the Pioneer Clubs decided to elect a Young Pioneer Council with representatives from each school. The council is a forum for our members to voice their opinions as well as organises activities for all those involved.
The following schools have active Pioneer Clubs:
