Ireland is known throughout our world for many good things, but perhaps its greatest downfall is our reputation around the whole issue of alcohol, and in particular alcohol abuse.
The cost of such abuse is frightening. Traffic accidents, and public order offences, casualty wards of our hospitals and metal health issues. These are statistics that we can count, but broken marriages, unwanted pregnancies, bruised spouses and neglected children are much harder to quantify. The price of a pint is indeed a steep one as we continue to witness on a yearly basis the surge in alcohol consumption in our country.
It is into this vacuum that the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association exists and our aims are simple, we aim to provide a joyful, more meaningful and spiritual alternative to excess. Through all our activities we provide hope once again in the midst of abuse, and we encourage our young members in particular to choose the Spirit over spirits.
